Reflecting the Light of Jesus
In just a few weeks, central Texas will experience a total solar eclipse! As the moon passes between the earth and the sun, its shadow will darken the sky, plunging large swathes of the United States into sudden twilight. It is strange to think that we are all excited to see darkness come in the middle of the day as my children tend to fear the dark. Throughout scripture, we are told Christ shines His light and pierces the darkness. This solar eclipse means many people will be looking UP into the sky, and it reminds me of the power and privilege we have in reflecting the love and hope of Jesus into a broken and hurting world.
Recently, my co-host Pam McCune and I launched the first season of our “Called to Shine” podcast where we explore how Jesus is our light and we long to shine for Him. We hope to encourage and equip each other to love God and others right where He has placed us. Whether you are 14 or 94, we believe God is placing opportunities around each of us to make an impact for Him. So, you might be telling or asking yourself, “I don’t have time or can God really use me?” Season 1 is all about finding ways to love others and practical tips to help you shine like Jesus! Though some episodes are seasonal like our Thanksgiving and Christmas episodes, they are timeless and can be applied year round. Follow us on Instagram @calledtoshine and listen to our podcast on any platform. Let’s shine like stars in the universe!

A Calling to Shine: Lighting the Way for Others to See Jesus
Just as Paul challenged the Philippians to shine like stars in the universe, we love this powerful visual to shine and the heritage it comes from.
Shining Luminously: The Power of the Holy Spirit Within Us
We explore the concept of luminosity as not just a measure of energy radiated by a star, but as a metaphor for how we can impact the lives of those around us. Debbie McGoldrick reminds us that we don’t have to be perfect or put on a show, but instead, allow God’s spirit to flow through us as God leads.
Shining Through the Darkness: The Power of being a Light in Hard Times
Have you experienced one of those dark nights when you can’t see anything around you, but you look up and see one star that sparkles and gives light? It shines brighter surrounded by the darkest night.
