How exciting to receive another message from our “Contact Us” page. It was March 2023, that our team first received an email from Pastors Thomas and Alex in Uganda. They wanted to partner with us using our Bible studies, but there was a problem. It wasn’t in their local heart language. “Can you help translate?” we asked. The answer was, “yes.” Within a week the first Bible study LIGHT was translated into Luo! Problem solved!
The LIGHT study is based on 32 stories about Jesus from the gospels. Now that the translation was complete, a workshop was planned to equip Pastor Thomas and his disciples to reach the people around them. The workshop equipped them how to pray for, connect with, and lead the people around them into a closer relationship with Christ. As we opened the Zoom link for the training, we only saw a sheet metal room of empty white plastic chairs…where was everyone? Finally, Pastor Thomas stuck his head around the screen and said they were still getting set up, and there was a huge rain storm, so people were late making their way walking on the muddy roads. After a short delay, 20 smiles soon filled the room ready to learn. What a joy to teach them to share God’s word in their communities. With just 10 minutes left in the training, the screen went blank. Our connection went out as is common in some parts of the world. After a few minutes, we reconnected and the room was once again…empty. The pastor explained that it was getting dark and people needed to walk home to cook dinner for their families while it was still light to see. We saw the realities of life in this foreign country. Two months later they requested another workshop with a new group of 10 people.
Since that time Pastors Alex and Thomas consistently step out by faith and reach new communities with the gospel through small-group Bible studies. On one trip to a village 25 miles away they reported that many of those who attended confessed that the first step they needed to do was to forgive their neighbors, and these neighbors are their relatives. Wow, what a clear direction from the Lord.
Just a couple of days ago, Pastor Alex sent the photo below and said, “We have been using NBS2GO tools with many different groups of people in their homes, and they welcome their neighbors who are non-believers to attend the discussion that leads them to believe in Christ.” That day, 19 new believers were baptized! Please join us as we pray that God will open doors in Uganda for both men as they specifically desire to reach many more people through the radio stations.
