5 Ways to Neighbor at Easter
The resurrection of Christ is the pinnacle of our faith. Our annual celebration of this allows an incredible opportunity to reach our neighbors.
“I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die.” John 11:25,26
Easter is filled with cherished traditions such as worship services, egg hunts, chocolate bunnies, lilies, hats, and parades. Maybe we can enjoy these traditions this year and ask our neighbors to join us.
Neighboring is the act of praying, caring, and sharing hope with those where you live, work, and play. Here are a few ideas to help you connect with neighbors during the Easter season.
1. Pray for opportunities. The most important thing we can do is pray. Ask God to give you opportunities to talk to your neighbors. All it takes is a moment to make an impact. Ask the Lord to be at work in your conversations.
2. Invite a neighbor to church. Many who do not typically go to church will say “yes” to an invitation to Easter Sunday Service. Ask a neighbor to join you. Many churches provide small invitations with gathering times for you to hand out or make your own.
3. Host a potluck lunch on Easter. Never underestimate the power of paper plates! Keep it simple. It is a wonderful day to invite people to join you around your table. It’s not about the fancy meal; it’s about being together and building community. One idea is to provide a ham and have guests bring a side dish.
4. Take a lily to a neighbor with a note, “Thanking God today for the gift of Easter and YOU. I’m so glad you’re my neighbor!”
5. Make and Share Easter Baskets. Who doesn’t love getting a colorful basket filled with fun items? Round up the kids and head to the dollar store, where everyone can help pick items to fill one or more baskets. Include some of these classic items: candy, bubbles, toys, a book, stickers, fun socks, puzzle books, and gift cards, to name just a few. Add a thoughtful note or invitation to join you at Easter service and then deliver your finished baskets to a neighbor when you’re done.
We will make a huge impact in our communities if we practice loving those around us. Let’s together pray, “Lord, who are You leading me to reach out to this Easter and what invitation are You leading me to offer?” Make it your goal to engage in intentional conversations with at least one person this Easter season. That one conversation could lead to eternal life in Christ! For more ideas on connecting with neighbors click here.
