The Light Is Spreading: How Bible Studies Are Crossing Borders And Languages

Something powerful is happening around the world, and it all starts with one simple idea: gathering together to read and explore the Bible. Thanks to partnerships, translation efforts, and passionate local leaders, Bible studies are multiplying—crossing borders, languages, and cultures.

From Uganda to Kenya: A Movement Multiplies

In East Africa, the translation of Bible study materials into the Luo language has sparked new leadership and growth. In Uganda, a group of pastors worked together to make these studies accessible to Luo speakers—and the impact quickly spread beyond their borders.

Today, in Kenya, where Luo is also widely spoken, two new leaders, Grace and Mary, have stepped up to launch Bible studies in their own communities. This ripple effect all began in 2018, when Melisa encountered Neighbor Bible Studies during a women’s conference in Uganda. Inspired by what she saw, she returned home and started five Bible studies. That number has now grown to 16 active groups, with more on the horizon.

It’s a powerful example of how one encounter can spark a movement.

3 New Languages, Countless New Connections

Expanding access to Bible studies means breaking through language barriers—and that’s exactly what’s happening. The Light Bible Study has now been translated into BulgarianFulfulde, and Slovak. These translations are already being shared with ministry leaders across Europe and Africa, who are eager to use them within their own communities.

The Fulfulde translation, in particular, is opening doors in Cameroon, where it serves a large population of Fulfulde speakers. This project was made possible through collaboration with SIL Cameroon, an organization committed to making education and spiritual growth accessible across language groups.

By removing language as a barrier, more people can engage with the Bible in a way that feels personal and approachable.

Alex’s Story: A Passion for Spreading the Word

In Uganda, a dedicated partner named Alex continues to be a strong advocate for Neighbor Bible Studies. Recently, one of our team members joined a call where Alex was mentoring a new believer, explaining how Neighbor Bible Studies work and how they’ve helped launch numerous study groups and baptisms across the region.

Alex’s passion is infectious, and his story is one of many showing how local leadership, when supported and equipped, can spark long-term transformation in communities.

Looking Ahead

What began as a few study groups in one region has grown into a cross-border, multi-language movement. These stories are more than just encouraging—they’re proof that simple, relational Bible study can change lives, one gathering at a time. As more translations roll out and more leaders rise up, we’re excited to see how this movement continues to grow. The Light is spreading—and it’s only just beginning.
