The Day Two Peanut Butter Pies Arrived At My Front Door

When two peanut butter pies arrived at my door, my perspective shifted.

A job change led to an ocean crossing move from Budapest, Hungary to Atlanta, Georgia. Four kids in tow, ages 11 to 3, a large container of household goods, and two weary parents landed in a small neighborhood out in the suburbs. Pulling into our home, our hearts grieving the close of international living, we prayed a prayer of faith once again. “Lord, our trust is in You. We lay our lives down once again to be surrendered to Your plan.”

A couple of days later, our doorbell rang, and on the other side of the door stood a neighbor holding two peanut butter pies. “Welcome to the neighborhood. We are so glad you are here.” Her warm, friendly voice introduced herself. She shared that she had been praying for us. From the second she arrived, I sensed her genuine love for people and authentic care for her neighbors. It wasn’t too long after this that I learned of her deep faith in Christ and her generous heart for reaching out to intentionally love her neighbors.

Because of this moment, my heart became distinctly aware of how we feel when someone, even a stranger, brings the light of God’s love into our lives. We are drawn to the Lord because of the beautiful, winsome love of His people.
