Help! I Forgot My Neighbor’s Name

It was a sunny spring Saturday morning when I snapped on Snicker’s leash and headed out to walk in my neighborhood. Rounding the corner, I saw my neighbor working in the yard.

As she called my name and eagerly headed down the driveway, I blanked on her name. As she approached with her big smile, my heart rate increased as my ‘mental roladex’ flipped furiously. We all can easily find ourselves in those moments when we cannot remember a neighbor’s name.

“It’s starts with an “M”….. “Umm…..Marie….Mary….Marlene….Marcy”.

My quick prayer rose upward, “Father, would you help me remember this dear neighbor’s name?”

The Holy Spirit graciously ‘teleprompted’ her name just in time for me to say “Hello Merci!”

Remembering someone’s name is more than just a social courtesy—it’s a small but powerful way of showing respect and genuine interest in another person. A name carries identity, familiarity, and connection, and when we recall it, we signal that the person matters to us. In everyday interactions, this simple act can strengthen relationships, build trust, and turn brief encounters into meaningful connections.

Recently, I discovered the Bless app which gives prompts to pray for five neighbors daily. The free app includes a mapping feature which allows you to know your neighbors’ addresses and yes, their names! The bless app also keeps up with the neighbors you have prayed for. Combine the Bless app with one of NBS2GO’s prayer resources and you have prayer guides and prayer tracking.

The NBS2GO team invites you to begin praying for your neighbors by name and then watch what God will do!
